Wooden Boat People

By McKenzieDriftBoat.com

Looking at starting another wooden boat. Pram design but designing where the boat can be taken in two parts or folding so as to transport in back of a pickup truck and easily carried by two people. Anyone seen or have designs of this type?

You definitely should take a look at what Dave Z is doing on his blog! There are many designs that qualify as "pram" that wouldn't need to fold that would fit in a truck bed or on top of your rig. Many, also, will allow for two people. I haven't done any studies myself on folding or two piece boat design, but I just think a solid boat would allow for a little more confidence on the water, and without a bulky mid section, more room for passenger/rower. Just my two cents (and at my exchange rate, they may not even be worth that... :)

MaTT:

I have seen something like this down  at Cape Cod.  A guy came up from VA  with a two piece boat an the roof of his car.  I think it was a kit from Chesapeak Light Craft.  It was like an 8' pram and a 6' smaller end that nested inside the larger.  They had full bulkheads and were " bolted" together with some big hand turned "nuts".  It was rigged for rowing and sail- Big enouuugh for he and his wife and a kid or so.    They saikled and rowed all over Duxbury Bay  The next year he came with it all bolted together on a small boat trailer..  It was a good looking boat except for the "bulkhead"  Give them a call- its not a driftboat but looking at it may give you some ideas.

Good Luck
