engine shaft length and ho for a 16' Tatman

Hi Everyone,I'm new to the forum and have already enjoyed reading all of the posts. Great site!Can anyone tell me what engine shaft lenght I would for on my 16' Tatman? I'm guessing 4hp would be enough power. I would only use it to cruise back up short sections of river. ALso, do you recommend reinforcing the transom?Thanks in advance,AlSee More

Hard to explain....but a short shaft was too short. The long shaft seemed the perfect length. Take note that the rocker on your boat may dictate which motor you go with. Probably the best thing to do is sit the motor on the transom at the boat store.

Mine is not too long nor too short.

Al,

I use a longshaft 6hp Mercury. It is a 20" shaft.
