A different kind of wooden boat

Not quite the whitewater boat the most of the posts on here are about- but thought that some people might be interested in a restoration that I just finished. It's a 1978 Pocock cedar single rowing…Continue

"Wow! Great shots man! Took me right back to the G.C.......can't wait to get back. Thanks for sharing, as I sit here in my office and ponder what trips we may be able to salvage, as I watch what little snowpack we have, soak into the ground."

"Yes, sanding was stressful. Luckily a beer or two can cut the anxiety :) The bottom actually has a layer of .4oz fiberglass applied with thinned varnish (called ghost cloth), so in all I think it has 7 coats, three of which were cut 30% with…"

"Ben:   Beautiful job of restoration.  Sanding 3/32" WRC must be like brain surgery-a little too much pressure and your done.  How many coats of varnish did it take to get that finish? Good luck"

Ben A. Hayes replied to Jon Darrohn's discussion What is this trailer worth?
"I believe the trailer has a torflex axle, making it more desirable for driftboats etc than a leaf-spring trailer. Smoother ride, especially on dirt roads and washboard, but also more expensive."

Dories in Grand Canyon

Finally got pictures uploaded from a canyon trip last month. Perhaps it's cheating to put it here as there's only one wood boat on the trip, but she's a real beauty. A Derald Stewart (sp?) built dory from Grand Junction named the Canyon Wren. She recently got a full re-fit from Andy Hutchinson, and looks great. The other dory is my alumaweld, Chinook, although I hope to have a wood boat finished by my next trip down there!
