- Just bought my first wooden boat. A 16 ft drift boat built from probably a Tatman or Don Hill pattern. I'll be using it primarily on the Kenai River to fish for wild Alaska Rainbows. I came to Alaska in '85 with the Air Force and I've called it home ever since. I've spent a lot of years up here fishing primarily for salmon. 3 years ago I met Will Kimball, another member here, at a rod building class. He introduced me to drift boating at about the time I was getting serious about fly fishing. I knew right away that I wanted to buy a drift boat of my own and finally took the plunge on the last day of 2009. I also spend a lot of time fishing the lakes in my float tube.
