Jason, I used your leather glove method this weekend and it worked perfectly - thanks for the idea. My son caught a very nice smallmouth on the Grand, to boot. Thanks again.
I usually used some pieces of black pvc water pipe that was split and slid over the gunnels. That worked fine for me. You have to use at least the inch and half stuff or larger. You can get a few feet and if you lose a piece replacing is not too…
Yeah I am really confident in the trailer I "created". It was built to handle a heavier load - and all the hardware / winch, etc. is really heavy duty. I was looking at a Hyde trailer at the launch and it was nice and all - but it…
Craig,
Just saw that this thread was alive again, too dark now for some pics but I will take some tomorrow that show the trailer boat and strap, try to ignore all the leaves spiderwebs and dust on the boat, none of my boats have been getting use…
Hi guys...
Here's my tie-down set up. One strap and I use a couple of scraps from the front seat cushion upholstery to prevent "chafing" on the rails....
Works great.

Yeah luckily my girl's brother was able to throw a coat of industrial semigloss on the trailer to clean it up... he has a gun and spray area at his shop - so that was cool and more importantly... EASY. haha
I want to float the stretch between…
Good call on the paint, I'm having some pretty serious rust issues w/ my rig - not sure what paint my guy used. On a side note, I floated the Manistee up by M-72 last weekend. Lots of small fish on hoppers, nothing big. Good times had by all.…
Yeah man I built my own trailer from an existing regular boat trailer. I fabricated a roller for the back - and measured and installed bunks where I wanted them. The trailer has leaf springs, bearing buddies, 13" wheels, and is pretty darn…

Yes, I got up there quite a bit. The creek was nice and the ponds were unreal. It was fun to take beginners up there. There was another place, private ranch, I went to a bunch just off the Arkansas and down south of Leadville. Another great beginners place....Lots of fun.
Craig,
I worked for Gorsuch Outfitters in Edwards. That was 3 years ago. It was interesting but the cost of living and everything made it just a barely break even situation. I lived with a friend who moved there permanently.
I did fish the Colorado a bunch and drove over and tried the Blue. Had some great days on the Frying Pan. I decided not to go back due to the cost of living. I did not make enough to make it worth while. It was a good experience from seeing the country and meeting some great people.
Craig,
Thanks for the note. Yes, I live in Big Rapids, MI. I think you can get one of those frying pans from Cabela's. I haven't checked lately but they used to have them. You can actually fry 4 chickens at a time in one of them......
Haha thanks! I had to spend to time out there cleaning up and organizing before I even thought about working in there... That was half the work right there!
Agreed - refinishing is not as much fun as "finishing"... but it means you're out there usin it, right?? Gotta like that.
I got the idea for rubber matts from a restaurant - they used them behind the counter. They got them from a local company & I bought a couple & "customized" them. Great protection for the floorboards.
"Amen Brother"... God's country indeed. Let me know if you are ever back in the neighborhood - we'll go for a float. Mostly I spend my fishing and boating time on the Willamette & McKenzie... "home waters".
Are you in the process of building, "re-building", or just tinkering with the Tatman?
