Guy,
It looks great! That's a nice looking model! Now... 12 frames? Have you considered re-spacing them and eliminating a few? You probably could get away with 8 or 9. Or half height frames on every other one...…
Another option is to replace the entire oar block with umhw blocks. simply drill a few sets of 5/8" holes for your oarlocks. The stuff can get pricey fast. check ebay, or as rick suggests, mcmaster.
Nice progress. Glad you decided to build models. They all look pretty good. You are probably good to go to real materials if you are satisfied, or consider building a wood model. Get some scaled lumber and get it as right as…
Sorry for the super late response... that sounds like a nice setup. I just picked up a switch with a scandi line and a set of tips. I don't catch much, but it is fun to cast anyways!
Good looking boat Dave. I recall seeing this on another post, possibly yours. I like the curved stem.
Thanks for your comments, but I'll be honest with ya, my boats are nowhere near perfect. I learned you can hide alot with a…
Interesting. Looks nice. Build a scale model and set it on a flat surface. I wonder where the natural low spot will be. Forward of middle, dead on middle or slightly back? You've gone for what looks like…
Dave C,
That sounds like a nice offer. work on boats on the lake? heck yeah!
The side pockets aren't that hard to make- use lots of cardboard. I mock up alot of stuff with cardboard and duct tape before making it in…
Dave,
I'll offer..."what I'd do.."
I'd make a side pocket/seat rail system like I did in my recent skiff builds. It worked out extremely well, and your half frames will set you up nicely for it. …
Dave nice work on your boats, you are quite skilled. I had a question for you, I found about a 10 inch plane and a old old block plane in my basement. Will the 10 inch plane work to make my scarf joints for my side and bottom panels(56")? Or do i need to buy a 22 inch plane? If I use my 10 inch plane , it was my Great Grandfathers and hasn't been sharpener/used since he used them . I have very limited knowledge or experience with planes. I remember you mentioning there was an art to sharpening planes? Any Help is appreciated. I love the barbies in the model you built. I have two daughters myself , who are 9 and 11 years old. They will get a kick out of those pictures for sure!
Dave, this is Rick Newman from Spokane. We have never spoken, but I have folowed your boats progress both on here and at Happy Trout Chronicles. Neat boat and great job as a father sharing your activities with your kids! I admire your accomplishments.
I know that you follow events here quite closely and wanted to see more pictures of the Wooden Boat Festival. I took quite a few and have three files of pictures that I sent to both Randy and Greg Hatten. The total file size is 356 Mb so it overwhelms most mailing methods. I use a service called Pando that is free and works relatively well. If you would like me to send you the pictures I would be happy to.
I have pictures from the Boat Parade, pictures of the overall boats and where appropriate pictures of boat construction details. Lastly I had pictures of "Boat People" and the overall event.
Anyway if you are interested let me know an email address and I wil send them.
Evidence to the contrary... your priorities are just right!! Rain-check on Oregon... "literally". One of these days we'll float a river - here or there...

Hey - Happy Trout... Great "post" - boat progress is coming right along!! Wish you were able to make it out here for the wooden boat weekend... it's right up your alley - you'd have a great time!!
Keep up the good work...

Yea I'm with you on the double-enders, fairest lines of all. Can't haul as much, but as Ray Wylie Hubbard says... some things under heaven, are just cooler than hell.
I just ordered a foot stomper from Sandy. How do you like yours?
Thanks for your response, most helpful. By the way, I was thinking the DE designation after your boat(s) listings stood for double-ender, but I see in your blog you have a transom. What's the DE.
Dave,
I am planning on a bright finish right now... oil interior.
The main rivers I would be floating will probably be the Pere Marquette, Ausable, and possible the Big Man, Muskegon, etc. I have not spent much time on most of them (the Pere Marquette is the most frequent) but I am hoping the boat will allow me to get out more and explore more water.
I was liking the idea of a wider, low side boat that we can fish one from the from and back at the same time. Hopefully a little less reactive to the wind, and large enough for some decent trips with a couple guys and gear.
I think my host provider is dead in the water.
They don't answer email and they don't answer the phone.
I bought a new server at godaddy.
Take me a day or two to move it.
...need some jolt cola and copenhagen to get this done.
