I've done it, but not at that level. If I was forced to do it at that level, there would be green paint on several rocks. Great rowing, and great video.
Herb,
The Leaburg boat builder you are recalling is Tony Noe, who now lives around, or in, Anchorage. Unfortunately, he got a set of Keith's plans through the back door, and built some boats from the plans with some modifications. …
My pal, Beaver Boy Steve Steele, is the definitive word on this, but nothing else. I agree this was not built by Keith Steele. I've got two of them. My guess is someone "borrowed" from Keith's designs. …
Greg, Old Pal,
Two things. First, when you used to post your great videos to Wooden Boat People, they could be viewed by me selecting something simple, like "view." Now, my choices are Facebook or Twitter, neither of which I…
Greg, there is this little store chain in Eugene and Springfield. It is named BiMart. You might have crossed paths in an earlier life. Anyway, they sell nets big enough to be worthy of a steelhead or salmon. See you out…
If Keith built it, his son Steve will have the record. You can call him in Lebanon, OR. Steve is still churning out wood boats, some faithful to Keith's specs, some frankly better based upon Steve's evolutionary modifications.
You should make it. Great folks, great location. If you need a ride, or a wood boat to row on Greg's AM float, let me know. I live 3 miles below the site, and plan on floating down Friday nigh for the BBQ. I have a second beauty you could use Saturday if you want. If you are here Friday, you can ride with us, and row part way.
For the last year there has been a tree, with root wad, hung up at the top of Marten Rapids on the McKenzie. Marten was passable for good oarsmen, but tough in low water. It is gone. I'll float this weekend or next week from my place to the dam to report if it is a hazard. My guess is it is hung above High Banks.
David,
Are you going to join us for the Float before the Festival on the 25th... hope so. We've got about 15 to 20 boats lined up for the little outing - should be fun.
See ya.
