boat cover "bows" ?

Anyone have any slick ideas on how to create and maintain a convex  cover-shape  when your dory is covered?  A shape that stops water and snow from 'pooling' in the boat cover when the boat sits…Continue

Media (Medium?) blasted...

I just took on another Don Hill restoration project...This poor boat was media-blasted by the previous owner, him trying to remove the old checked paint with that process, according to my client. …Continue

My Don Hill boatowner is quite pleased

He came up yesterday and got his "new" boat.  A very happy and somewhat amazed (by the boat's transformation) fellow.   He insisted I take a small bonus payment for my work, which I did not turn down.  With the bonus, I made just about minimum wage..almost.  Other than the sanding, re-working the old Woodie was really quite fun.

We put almost $1000 in materials and supplies into the job.  I had over 100 hrs of labor as well.

In our original discussions and my quick…

A progress report on the refurbishment of the Don Hill boat:

Flipped it over and...sighed.  More, a lot more... basic sanding, staring me right in the face.

I put three coat of Dura Tuff clear coat finish on the outside.  This is the finish that Don Hill used.  I called the fellow who bought out Don Hill's patterns and…

R&R on a Don Hill boat being done now (late April, '11)

I have not figured out how to post pics here yet.  For now, I will reference you to my Picasa web album(s) with about 20 pics of this project as it's progressed 'till now.

I was commissioned to bring this boat back to life late last fall.  It was soaking wet, full of ice and leaves, a forlorn sight as the client pulled up to my shop with it.  He's a recreational floater, wanted the boat saved, if possible, so he could float it this summer.   He seems to be OK with…
