I was just talking about for your boat, not a system for other boats... You could add false ribs, with a slot running the length that would accept a plywood (or whatever material) bulkhead, that could slide in and out, almost like a headgate or…

Hey Jeremy:  that looks like a familiar stage on your Briggs - hope that comes together well for you.  I too got some plans from Andy back in 2000 and cobbled together my Briggs boat, just returned from my 6th Grand trip with it on a…

How are you planning to attach the decks? Are you going to add thwarts/bulkheads?   Would be the perfect opportunity to design some sort of bolt on removable decking system. Sandy at montana-riverboats.com has been talking up the idea for a…

Jim, just talked with Larry. We had two people drop out, spots paid and food provided for. If you can book a shuttle and get to Sand Wash tonight or early tomorrow morning for a launch tomorrow morning, come on! Only catch is I get to row your boat…

Yes we are. I try not to take it for granted, because it truly is an incredible resource. We need people to be vigilant though, because there is no guarantee that is will stay this way for…

You need to clean up that shop.  It's a mess and give me back those straps and where is the 30 dollars for the electric you owe me?  There is no beer in the fridge.  What kind of boat shop are you running?

Well with one foot of plascore you certainly would have had some floatation! I wonder if it could be bent? Building your self bailing system would have been easy, just drill some 2" holes above the top of the plascore. If you were able to shape…

Awesome!  Briggs are a joy to row.  I'll be bugging you for advice for my next build.  I'll be in the Grand April and September... Maybe I'll get to see your new boat?

There is also a stretcher in the rear, critical to get the side panels to mate the beveled transom edge. Bottom will be 1' plascore, glued to the bottom of the side panel edge once the rest of the bulkheads are tacked in place.

Looks like you are building open-side up, using the 2x4 with blocks on the bottom to fix the bottom width, a couple bulk heads and one stretcher to set the flair.  How are you planning on attaching the bottom?  Is the bottom going to be…

Flows are up on the Green, too. Fishing should be terrific, but be prepared for high flows.

I finally broke down and bought the West System scarfer, it kicks ass, once you have the right blade (took a few passes to get that figured out). I started with a 60 tooth (I think) carbide finish blade, but had to switch to a carbide framing blade.…

Installing Bulkheads

The boat is nicely taking form, with all bulkheads filletted into place, except the front passenger seat thwart. I'm sure the traditional builders will chuckle watching me torture the hull into shape, but I tell you what...this free-form, right side up method of building is fun and very visually gratifying, like sculpting almost, watching the lines emerge. The lines, BTW, are beautiful. Very graceful, and aggressive at the same time, like the river for which it was designed.… Continue

Hey Jeremy:  hope you had a great float, let me know what happened, looking at your fetal briggs brings back old memories, can't believe it's been 10 years since I built mine.

best to you, Jim

Alright! hope to explore down there while out in the split mtn area, do a loop type of trip. have wanted to experience that river. the boulder boat works boat is great, i love it, i don't have any other experience with other dory boat lines & construction, but compared to my rafting background, its paradise.

Jeremy,

Thanks for the info, I have not started on the interior yet, so your input is very helpful.

Jeremy,

I am in the planning stages of a decked dory and am picking the brains of all you dory guys regarding hatch design. One of the photos on your page (great photos by the way!) "flip test" got me thinking of the water tightness of prolonged exposure to water such as a flip. Did the water stay out? Any photos or guidance you could send along of hatch design would be appreciated...

Cheers,

Robb Grubb
