Most epoxy will do the job but, since I know nothing about the brand you are using do test first. The brake it apart to see how it worked. The glue joint should be stronger then the wood. As for the process. Get the shop up to temperature. Mix the…

Thanks everyone for your guidence. True , nice looking router jig and shop,M. Baker ! I have never used a router, may have to go the jack plane route. I have some old ones , from my great grandfather. Not sure if they will work though. Q

Matt: Circular saw is fine for cutting panels- blade just cutting through PW.- Also used to cut the bottom panel curves. Side panels clamped together and trued up with a jack plane- they will be perfectr matches. Bakers router jig looks good- but a…

Sam Manning drew the illustrations that show the old hand tools. He's a wonderful man and a fabulous illustrator, but a bit of a luddite regarding power tools. As the other folks say, a power saw is fine, with a good plywood blade. 1) since…

Mat, A circle saw is the best way to go for cutting sides. I had good luck with a battery powered 5" saw with a fine blade. The saw is light and no cord to hang up. Set blade depth to just clear the wood. You will be surprised at how easy it…

Hey Matt, I use a circular saw for cutting my sides. I use one of those cheap blades made for plywood and O.S.B. I just get a new one about every other boat. I use a guide made from 3/8 x 6" x 8' O.S.B. I also made a zero clearance base…

Cutting Techniques

Hi ,Last week I received my signed copy of Roger Fletcher's awesome literary masterpiece.  I noticed an illustration of cutting the side panels with a capenters saw.  I am wondering if this the preferred method in cutting the sides ?  Seems it would be tough to keep my lines straight. Had a couple of additional questions, I am going to build "The Bridges" drift boat : 1. I am thinking of using a table saw to cut the bevels for my frames. (best method?)  Any insight is appreciated, tried to…See More

A true becket is spliced- or rather relaid. Take a section of 3 strand line about 4 times longer than the wanted diameter of the "ring". Unlay the line to get a single strand. Make a loop about 1/3 of the lenght of the strand and re-lay…

Is a true becket spliced in? This one is knotted, but the bowline is spliced. We can fix that. We started work on her on a Monday morning last August, and launched her twelve days later. I only got to row her for about ten minutes before I flew…

Brad: absolutly a classic piece of craftsmanship! Now then, I have to ask- is the becket at the transom a true becket or did you cheat and tie knots? I can't see the otherside of the transom. Randy/Dave have the red oak thing right on. The…

Damn! The guy in charge of getting the wood fumbled the ball--he was supposed to get WHite Oak and got Red. I guess we'll have to replace it some day.
