I know I am probably missing something but jason has been building boats a long time with just epoxy on the insides of his boats. He only glasses the outside, then paints the outside and Bristol finish over the epoxy inside. The glass on the outside…

Nice boat.  I bought the plans for the same boat last week and trying to track down all the supplies.  I live in OP KS so not too far away.  Where did you find the plywood?  Around KC or somewhere else? Any help would be…

You can get rid of the mold by spraying on a coat of 50/50 antifreeze. The standard pre-mix you get at the auto parts supplier. It doesn't stain and will kill the mold spores deep in the wood. Just don't leave a puddle in the bottom of the…

Fab I have build a Montana boatbuilders freestone guid and it is a great boat. If you have a family I wouldn't build anything smaller. You might also consider their freestone skiff if you don't have much white water that you will be…

I have always fiberglassed the underside of the front casting deck. Both of my boys like to ride up there, one is 100lbs, the other is 60lbs. I used 3/8 and 6oz glass on both boats. 11 years no problems. Scott

I think these guys are right on when they say you need to think about the water you are floating. My first boat was a hi sided boat. It was awesome in bigger water, but my version of bigger water was class III since I use my drifter for fishing and…

Ok so I am really not trying to get under anyones skin but is it just me or is this thread the best argument for the technique of stitch and glue? Especially if you were going to deck the boat?

Scott Hepler replied to Ben Kittell's discussion 'Epoxy'
One thing that saved me a lot of time and sanding was to simply clean up any squeeze out of epoxy with denatured alcohol. If you have any fillets you can wait till the epoxy is just tacky and then take your finger (in a glove) and wet it with…

Scott Hepler replied to Ben Kittell's discussion 'Another Newbie Needs Advice'
Ben, One option if you are going to glass and use frames is to drill pilot holes where your screws are going to go, I use a tapered drill bit with a built in counter sink. Then put a small dab of 5200 on the screw, drive it home and just clean up…

Welcome to the site... how did you find your way to drift boats from Grain Valley?? I'm from St. Joe originally... I have family in Oak Grove - the Fry's. Ryan Fry is coming out to float the Wild & Scenic section of the Rogue River in two weeks...
