I have never seen a black bear that size. If I did I would continue rowing a few more miles before making camp. Last month on the Green we saw a cub. It might have been 60 pounds but, this photo is nice. He looks hungry!

Damn! That is one quick little boat! Looks like you guys had a blast. You just can't beat Father and Son time on a river. Mike

That would be fun. Perhaps we can talk Ken, Harry and the aged Tubby into coming down to the next McKenzie Boat Show.

Fun video clips, Randy. The little boat really puts you in touch with the river and offers considerable forgiveness because of its maneuverbility. On our early Rogue trips we threw Tubby in the back of the pickup and trailered my 16 x 48. I…

I always enjoy Herb's stories. I would love to run a trip down there with you one day. I do think we (as in the next generation of river runners after guys Herb's age) are way more spoiled then they were, but on the other hand, I think…

Great pictures both here and on the other post. I really miss being on the Rogue. It seems to me we always ran Wildcat down the left side from the top. It has been a few years so the memories become a little fuzzy...... Same thing for Slim Pickens,…

Randy, I know not to go there by going the wrong way myself. One my second or third trip down (low water run) I got myself right where you were in my cataraft by blindly following someone else (another lesson learned). My cat was heavily loaded,…

Nice big boar, I have only once saw one this size, it was strolling on the opposite side of the river while we were cooking dinner camped at Dulog.

bottom replacement

here is the quick bottom replacement. the owner of this boat was fishing a few days before i got it. the reason he brought it to me is that it was leaking slightly. at first look there was no damage. when i started poking around my hand went through the bottom. the only thing holding the bottom together was the UHMW shoe. anyway if your boat is leaking you have a bigger problem than you think, but it's not the end of the boat. i would recommend that if you have a leak you take care of it before… Continue

Sanderson,
Yeah I think ill get some of the epoxy from you as well as the paint. I like the sould of that stuff. The Raka that I am using takes FOREVER to cure enough to be sandable.....and it is finicky in the cold weather. If I came up to Vida on Friday would you have the chine and transom battens as well as new rub rails? Are the rub rails already scarf jointed together? chine batten?

Hi Sanderson,

How many boats in that shop? Good question. I think I probably build five or six while working for Don. Don then left, and I took over another building on the same property. I did mostly kits there, as I had lots of room for materials, and not a lot of room to store boats.

Nice pram. The touch on the inside of the transom too.

Last Fall I caught my first steelhead while trout fishing with a buddy. I caught it on a Royal Wulff with a five weight rod and line. It took 50 minutes to boat. A native, I released it. I happened to be visiting for a few days.

Your office chair is a visible sign of drift boat obsessive compulsive disorder! Don't worry, it isn't fatal, and happily, it can't be treated.
