Cygnus Vedrae and a bit of her history

I think that anyone who owns an old boat tries to find out about the boats history. I've been lucky in some respects, but I've still got a 20 year gap I'd like to fill. The pics are from old…Continue

Cygnus overhaul 2010

Hi everyoneI've not posted for a while as we've been doing a refit on Cygnus along with normal maintenance and antifouling etc. We had some hull planks to replace, some of them requiring some fairly tight bends. The main one of these was fairly short and because the timbers are mahogany, and all I could find was kiln dried, it proved to be a bit of a pain. The plank in question was 5 inches x 7/8th and we had to steam it for about 4 hours before being able to bend it on a bench former without…See More

I think that anyone who owns an old boat tries to find out about the boats history. I've been lucky in some respects, but I've still got a 20 year gap I'd like to fill. The pics are from old editorials or adverts. None feature Cygnus but are no less interesting for all that. This one is page one from a two page feature. Has anyone got page two? The internal layout of our salon is completely different. We have the larger, 30HP, Coventry 'Godiva' engine, and the doorway into the cabin is on the…See More

Cygnus Vedrae, 1951 motor yacht

We're new here, so thought it might be good to introduce ourselves. We're Stu and Kath from the UK.This is our boat. She was built by Geo Wilson in London and launched onto the river Thames in 1951. We bought her in 2001 and have lived aboard her full time since then. She's approx 30 foot long with a 9 foot 6 inch beam and draws 3 foot 3 inches. As a motor sailer she carries a 2 ton keel which really aids stability, at all times. The keel makes a massive difference. Instead of bouncing every…See More
