They float!
We got in last night from a 15-day Grand Canyon trip with two virgin Fretwater Briggsian dories, Lodore and Euphrates, a virgin Alumiweld named Wesley, my old Briggs Cataract, and Andy Hutchinson's firstborn--a 16-foot Briggsian shorty named Woodenshoe. Grand Canyon was running a steady 8,000 cfs and was oh-so-peppy in many places. Wesley flipped in Horn Creek, Woodenshoe did an extended side-surf in Lava without flipping, and the rest slipped through. Here's a few shots:

Hey Brad! Thanks for the beautiful pics--nothing warms my soul quite like a row of bow posts at the ferry, especially as I look out my window at the snow beginning to fall(better cover the boat!).

Those are grain scoops, but do serve wonderfully as both urinals for the ladies and bailers for the rest of the folks. With seat level self-bailers, they are plenty big enough.

Beautiful pictures. Very impressed. I do wonder about the urinal hanging from the side though. LOL. I suppose it would make for a suitable bailing bucket, albeit small.

Don't you mean the "Woodenhoe?"
I have a picture in my kitchen that Renny Russell snapped of Jerry Cox after flipping that boat in the "new wave" running right at Crystal. He is standing there with a goofy smile on his face, holding a large piece of the starboard bow which is conspicuously un-attached to the boat. Andy told me that after they glued it back together at mile 110 beach, it read "Woodenhoe." I imagine it has been faithfully restored since, and obviously still floats high and proud.
Wooden boats kick ass.

Very nice covey of boats, Brad. I'll be you caught some attention en route -- save the bag of gas, which I'm sure was a big help haukingn stuff. Great pictures of Dan too.
